Jianghuai Automobile Co Ltd. is commonly known as JAC Motors. It is one of the major state manufacturers of automobiles and commercial vehicles located in Hefei, China.
In 2012, JAC Motors manufactured nearly 445,000 vehicles.
When the company was founded in 1964, it was called Hefei Jianghuai Automobile Factory, but in 1997, it was renamed to Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co Ltd. four years later it made an IPO on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
By 2007, manufacture of passenger cars by JAC Motors was approved by the government. However, it was still associated with truck making industry. After being recognized as a producer of commercial vehicles, the company began cooperating with Hyundai Motors.
From 2003 to 2007, they produced Hyundai MPVs. However, JAC continued making two models which were constructed on the basis of the technology offered by Hyundai.
In 2009, the Chinese government announced about consolidation support in the Chinese automobile manufacturing industry. Most analytics predicted that JAC would join Chery as they are situated in the same region. However, JAC clarified that it was not going to consolidate with such a giant as Chery as it wanted to produce passenger cars only. As a result, in 2010, it announced about the launch of a new program for electric vehicles.
In 2009, the company's sales were above 300,000 vehicles which included 12,100 items exported and sold abroad.
Sales reached more than 300,000 units in 2009 including 12,100 sold overseas.
Next year, it was recognized as one of the best 10 Chinese most-productive producers of vehicles as it managed to sell 458,500 vehicles taking the 8th position in the list. One year later it took the 9th position after producing more than 500,000 vehicles. However, in 2012 it lost its position as its sales fell to 445,000 items.
